HARMONIE MUNICIPALE d'AIX-EN-PROVENCE

A colleague in the choir introduced me to the Harmonie Municipale d’Aix-en-Provence, a concert band which is a great outlet for any musician playing a woodwind or brass instrument, keyboard, bass or drums, and who likes to play all styles of music from classical to jazz. We play frequently all over the Aix area at indoor and outdoor venues.

CENTENARY YEAR: 2012

Concert: Saturday 8th December 2012

This year is particularly important for us. It may only be my second year, but for the Harmonie it's their centenary! To celebrate this 100th birthday we will be performing in the Grand Theatre de Provence on Saturday, 8th December. The first half of the concert will be devoted to our own repertoire, and we will be joined by other musicians who will augment the orchestra, a clarinettist from Paris and in the second half, a choir "Opus 13" along with a childrens' choir, with a teenage solo singer from the Aix conservatoire, and we will number over 200 on stage. "Big Band 13", which includes some members of the Harmonie will also be performing.  It promises to be an exciting and uplifting family-friendly concert, and the work we will be jointly performing has been composed especially for the occasion.

If you would like to reserve tickets for this occasion, or to see more photos & videos and find out more about us please follow our centenary website link:

There will also be an exhibition of the band in Aix from 6th -16th November at La Salle Pavillon, celebrating the history of the Harmonie with photos, videos and interviews. One of our members has been playing for 56 years, and the Harmonie has been under the baton of its present conductor Alain Genre-Jazelet, for 42 years.

One of our sponsors is MSC, the Mediterranean Shipping Company who recently invited us onto one of their cruise liners for a guided tour and complimentary lunch.
